cravings in in their mouth and guiltiness in their hearts;
What a way to avert the wear and tear that hurts;

Oh Merka Cadeey...
Do you remember me! Does “ Benadir or Merkaawi “ refresh your memory. We were inseparable friends. We lived together in harmony. We even shared the same name.
We are bound by history. We are interwoven by culture. We were urged to detach from each other. I did not abandon you. You always lived in my heart.
You fell in the hands of ruthless strangers. They showed no mercy toward you. They physically destroyed you. They mutilated your beautiful face. It is hard to recognize you today.
Your soul however remained intact. It is hard to make it disappear. You resisted destruction of your inner glow. We share the same soul. It is hard to make it vanish.
Oh Merka... Do you now remember me?
We shared the same authenticity. It is hard to dissolve our long standing history. I want to come back to you. I want to re construct what is lost in your appearance. Please forgive me if you thought that I have abandoned you.

Poems about Merka
Oh! Merca
1) Your gentle noises mix the whisper of sea waves, music, prayers, engine drone and laughter
Your Indian sea plays rhythmic beats alternating between the coral reefs and the sandy beaches
Your beautiful star-filled sky inspire many to retreat into the roof-tops to dream of great feat
Your night noises lull your sons to a long sleep filled with dreams rich in optimism and lofty ideals
2) Your markets hum with traders and merchants who bargain to secure deals for your villages
Your sons sip tea, play football and flock to the available spaces to read, think and explore
Your daughters paint the town streets with colors and fill the air with romantic fragrance
Your boys bow to the sweet-scented air evoking romantic frenzy in their minds and hearts
3) Your whistling winds are tamed through narrow alleys to caress the red undulating dunes over the hills
Your white-washed walls flash the smile of a playful baby who just suckled his Mom’s rich milk
Your birds glide above and vanish into the skyline over the ocean to inspire freedom in the heart
Your sons pride in diversity as your culture nurtures tolerance and wisdom that breeds harmony
4) Your muezzin, at dawn, calls for the prayers as your crows take it to the hearts of the faithful
Your believers flock into the mosques to thank God for the gift of life and pray for peace
Your sky turns into breathtaking rosy as it anticipates new day filled with your rhymes and beats
Your moon dims its light like a dying gasoline lamp running out of fuel to give way to the upcoming sun
5) Your morning sun fades away the dew in the air, as the gleaming waves evoke breeze that is consoling
